About this Album

Pet Sounds was released on May 16, 1966. Brian Wilson arranged, composed, and produced it, and it was the first Beach Boys album on which studio musicians such as the Wrecking Crew largely replaced the band on instruments.[1] Wilson has said that hearing the Beatles' Rubber Soul pushed him to make it.[1]

In the United States the album was met with a lukewarm critical and commercial response and peaked at number 10, while in the United Kingdom it was lauded and reached number 2.[1] Its reputation has since grown to the point that it is regarded as one of the most influential albums in popular music, and George Martin's liner notes described Sgt. Pepper's as an attempt to equal it.[2]
