About this Album
petal is Ariana Grande's eighth studio album, released on July 31, 2026 through Republic Records, her first since eternal sunshine in 2024. It runs about 36 minutes across eleven songs and an interlude, with Grande, ILYA and Max Martin credited as the album's producers.
Grande describes the title as something full of life growing through the cracks of something cold and hard, and the album as a breakup with negative attachments, including her own inner monsters and outside voices. Critical reception was mixed, with an average score around 64, and reviewers often singled out the quieter final stretch, which closes on "nowhere, nobody."
Variety called it Grande's biggest musical departure and most accomplished album, built with longtime collaborators Ilya Salmanzadeh and Max Martin, with Martin on only three songs.[1] Grande has described the writing as coming from unfiltered rage, and the late track "bad thing (bunny hop)" offers a bright new wave-flavored detour into desire.[2]
