About this Album

Stranger in the Alps is Phoebe Bridgers's debut album, released on September 22, 2017 on Dead Oceans.[1] It was recorded in 2016 between tours at Tony Berg's studio in Los Angeles and produced by Berg and Ethan Gruska, with string arrangements by Rob Moose, a mix by Mike Mogis, and guest vocals from Conor Oberst and John Doe.[1]

The title comes from the edited-for-television version of The Big Lebowski, which Bridgers found accidentally poetic.[1] Singles included "Killer," "Smoke Signals," "Motion Sickness," and "Funeral."[1]

Critics responded warmly, and the record holds a Metacritic score of 82 out of 100, indicating universal acclaim.[1] It peaked at number 82 on the Billboard 200 and has since been certified Gold in the United States and United Kingdom.[1]
