Biography
Phoebe Bridgers is an American singer-songwriter from Pasadena, California. She began playing guitar as a teenager, busking at a local farmers market, and attended the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts.[1] She was accepted to Berklee College of Music but left after orientation.[1] Her debut solo album, Stranger in the Alps, appeared in 2017, followed by Punisher in 2020.[1] She is also a member of the trio boygenius with Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus, and recorded as Better Oblivion Community Center with Conor Oberst.[1]
Producer Tony Berg heard a song she wrote at sixteen and offered to produce her first album for free.[1] Her early EP Killer came out on Ryan Adams's label, and the two were romantically involved for a time. In 2019 she was among several women who told The New York Times about emotional abuse by Adams.[2][3] She signed to Dead Oceans in June 2017 and released her debut album, Stranger in the Alps, that September, with the single "Motion Sickness" widely understood to concern that relationship.[2][4]
