About this Album
Stratosphere is the debut album by Duster, released on February 24, 1998, by Up Records.[1] Clay Parton and Canaan Dove Amber recorded most of it at Low Space Orbit, their home studio in San Jose, using inexpensive four-track and eight-track analog gear.[1]
The record blends space rock, slowcore, indie rock and shoegaze, with low-mixed vocals and slow tempos, and circles themes of leaving routine behind for unfamiliar space.[1] It drew little mainstream attention at first but built a cult following, praised by outlets including Pitchfork and AllMusic, and was reissued by Numero Group, including a 25th anniversary edition in 2023.[1][2]
