Duster

Biography

Duster is an American indie rock band formed in San Jose, California, in 1996, centered on the multi-instrumentalists Clay Parton and Canaan Dove Amber.[1] The two had previously played together in the screamo band Mohinder, and their first Duster recordings were home-made cassettes made in a home studio they called Low Space Orbit.[1][2]

Their 1998 debut, Stratosphere, helped define a hazy, lo-fi blend of slowcore, space rock and shoegaze.[2] Drummer Jason Albertini joined around that time and remained until 2022.[1] The band split in 2005, then returned in 2018 with their first show in eighteen years.[1] Numero Group reissued their catalog in 2019, and a surge of popularity on TikTok in the 2020s brought them a far larger audience.[1]
