Biography

Cate Le Bon (born Cate Timothy, 4 March 1983) is a Welsh singer, songwriter and producer from Penboyr, Carmarthenshire, who sings in both English and Welsh.[1] She grew up on a farmhouse with her two sisters, and took her stage name as a nod to Simon Le Bon.[1]

She first drew attention supporting Gruff Rhys on his 2007 UK tour, and released her debut Me Oh My in 2009, followed by Cyrk (2012), Mug Museum (2013), Crab Day (2016), Reward (2019, Mercury Prize nominated), Pompeii (2022) and Michelangelo Dying (2025). She also recorded as the duo DRINKS with Tim Presley.[1]

Le Bon moved to Los Angeles in 2013 and has also lived in Joshua Tree and Cardiff. For Reward she retreated to a remote village in Cumbria, took a furniture-making course, and found music returning as a nightly outlet.[1][2] She is also in demand as a producer, with credits for Deerhunter, Wilco, John Grant, Dry Cleaning and Kurt Vile.[1]
