Biography
Girls Aloud are a British pop group assembled on the ITV talent show Popstars: The Rivals in 2002, whose debut single "Sound of the Underground" won that year's Christmas chart battle.[1] Their sound was shaped by the Kent production team Xenomania, led by Brian Higgins and Miranda Cooper.[2]
The lineup was Cheryl Cole, Sarah Harding, Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh.[3] The group went on an indefinite hiatus in March 2013 after the Ten: The Hits Tour.[1] Sarah Harding died of breast cancer on 5 September 2021, aged 39, and in 2024 the remaining members toured as The Girls Aloud Show in her memory.[1]
Their fifth album, Out of Control (2008), became their biggest-selling studio album in the UK.[4]
