Jockstrap

PersonFormed 2017

Biography

Jockstrap are an English experimental pop duo formed in London by Georgia Ellery and Taylor Skye, who met in 2016 at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and began working together in 2017[5]. Ellery, a jazz violinist, sings and writes the lyrics; Skye, an electronic music student, handles production[5]. The name was chosen for its shock value[5].

After EPs on Kaya Kaya and Warp, they signed to Rough Trade in 2021 and released the Mercury-shortlisted debut I Love You Jennifer B in 2022[5][4]. Ellery is also a member of Black Country, New Road[5].

Ellery has played violin since the age of five, while Skye mostly works at a computer, reworking her songs with a futuristic pop approach.[3] Their early EPs came out on Warp, and the debut album was made over about three years and tried out at London parties.[3] They tend to keep their first creative idea, a habit Ellery ties to the music itself, and they have directed several of their own videos, including the one for "Glasgow."[3][4]
