Lala Lala

Person

Biography

Lala Lala is the project of songwriter Lillie West. Her fifth album, Heaven 2, arrived in February 2026 on Sub Pop[3], co-produced with Melina Duterte of Jay Som[4].

The record grew out of several years of moving between Chicago, Taos, Iceland, London, and Los Angeles, and West describes it as an examination of her own restlessness[1]. It follows a previous fully instrumental release and turns back toward ethereal vocals and layered harmonies[3], with critics hearing a move toward electronic indie pop[2].

West was born in England and raised in Los Angeles before moving to Chicago for school, where a guitar bought off Craigslist led to Lala Lala[5]. Her debut, Sleepyhead (2016), was made while she was still drinking and using; by 2018 she was newly sober[5]. After a 2017 burglary and the death of a close friend, she wrote The Lamb, released on Hardly Art in September 2018 and led by the single "Destroyer"[6].
