Biography

Linda Perhacs (born Linda Jeanne Arnold on September 21, 1943, in Santa Monica, California) is an American singer-songwriter who grew up in Mill Valley.[3] In the late 1960s she settled in Topanga Canyon and worked as a dental hygienist in Beverly Hills, writing songs in her spare time.[3]

Her career began when Leonard Rosenman, an Oscar-winning film composer and one of her dental clients, heard a demo and brought her into a studio to record her debut, Parallelograms (1970).[3] The album was largely ignored, and she returned to dental hygiene.[2]

Michael Piper of the Wild Places label reissued the album in 1998 and located her in 2000, and it grew into a cult favorite alongside the New Weird America movement.[3] She sang on Devendra Banhart's "Freely" in 2007, released The Soul of All Natural Things in 2014 on Asthmatic Kitty, with contributions from Julia Holter and Ramona Gonzalez of Nite Jewel, and followed it with I'm a Harmony in 2017.[3]
