Biography
Miles Caton was born on March 3, 2005, in Brooklyn, New York, into a family where music was not a hobby but a spiritual practice.[1] His mother, Timiney Figueroa, is a well-known gospel singer, and his aunt, Anaysha Figueroa-Cooper, is also an accomplished gospel vocalist.[8] His grandfather is a senior pastor and archbishop. By his own account, every member of his family sings or plays an instrument.
Caton began singing at age two. At five, he performed Sam Cooke songs at the NAACP Freedom Fund Awards Gala. At twelve, a video of him interpreting Nina Simone's "Feeling Good" went viral online and was later incorporated into the opening sequence of Jay-Z's album "4:44."[1] He subsequently appeared on NBC's "Little Big Shots" (2018) and performed alongside Yolanda Adams on "The View" for MLK Day (2019), earning co-signs from Fred Hammond, Faith Evans, Erica Campbell, and Bishop T.D. Jakes.
By his late teens, Caton was touring as a background vocalist with Grammy-winning artist H.E.R., an experience he has credited with broadening his sonic palette well beyond gospel.[5] He also opened for Coldplay. In 2025, he made his feature film debut in Ryan Coogler's supernatural horror film "Sinners," playing Sammie Moore, a preacher's son drawn toward music.[6] Coogler described discovering a once-in-a-generation voice. The film earned Caton the Critics' Choice Award for Best Young Performer, SAG Award nominations, a BAFTA Rising Star Award nomination, and a performance slot at the 98th Academy Awards ceremony.[1]
Caton released his debut solo single, "Don't Hate Me," on March 20, 2026, produced by JT Daly. Rooted in neo-soul and gospel-inflected R&B, the track showcased his baritone voice and established him as a solo artist distinct from his film work. His primary vocal influences include Sam Cooke, Nina Simone, Stevie Wonder, and Donny Hathaway. A debut EP is expected in 2026.[2]
