Biography
Pale Saints were an English band formed in Leeds in 1987 by Ian Masters (vocals, bass), Graeme Naysmith (guitar) and Chris Cooper (drums). They started out as a jangly indie pop group and moved toward a noisier, more atmospheric sound.[2]
Label head Ivo Watts-Russell signed them to 4AD after their first London show.[2] Their 1989 EP Barging Into the Presence of God and 1990 debut The Comforts of Madness established them as part of the shoegaze and dream pop scene.[2][1]
Masters left in the early 1990s, citing little enthusiasm for touring and a wish to pursue more experimental work,[3] and the band continued with new members until 1996.[2] Naysmith died on 4 April 2024.[2]
