Biography

Sidney Gish is an indie pop and indie rock singer-songwriter and producer from a suburb in New Jersey, born March 18, 1997.[1] She moved to Boston to study the music industry at Northeastern University from 2015 to 2020, and the city became her base.[1][2]

She records and mixes her own music, mostly alone, and has released her albums herself through Bandcamp, including Ed Buys Houses (2016) and No Dogs Allowed (2017).[1][3] The second record won Album of the Year at the 2018 Boston Music Awards, earned praise from Pitchfork, and led NPR to name her a 2018 Slingshot Artist to Watch.[1][4] She opened for Mitski on tour in 2018 and released the 2023 single Filming School through Sub Pop.[1]

Her influences include Regina Spektor, of Montreal, Vampire Weekend, Kate Bush, Fiona Apple and The Avalanches, and critics often compare her to Frankie Cosmos and Car Seat Headrest.[1][2][4] Her live shows are built around guitar and looping.[2]
