Biography
Slint were an American band from Louisville, Kentucky. Vocalist and guitarist Brian McMahan and drummer Britt Walford met through the local punk scene in the early 1980s and played in teenage bands including Squirrel Bait.[1] Walford later played with guitarist David Pajo in Maurice, and the pair carried on with bassist Ethan Buckler until McMahan joined and the group became Slint.[1]
The band befriended Steve Albini through shows with his group Big Black, and he recorded their debut, Tweez, in 1989.[1] Buckler left over his unhappiness with the sound of that record and Todd Brashear took over on bass, and a single recorded with Albini brought them to Touch and Go Records.[1]
Their second album, Spiderland, was recorded in four days in August 1990 and released in March 1991.[2] The band had split up in November 1990, reportedly because of McMahan's depression, and sold few copies at first.[2] The record was later hailed as a landmark of post-rock and math rock, and Slint reunited for tours from 2005 onward.[2]
