Biography
Spirit of the Beehive are an experimental rock band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, formed in 2014 and named after Victor Erice's 1973 Spanish film The Spirit of the Beehive[7]. The project grew out of the band Glocca Morra, which vocalist Zack Schwartz came from[7].
The core of the group is Zack Schwartz and Rivka Ravede, both on vocals, joined from 2019 by Corey Wichlin[7]. Their albums include Pleasure Suck (2017) and Hypnic Jerks (2018) on Tiny Engines, ENTERTAINMENT, DEATH (2021) on Saddle Creek, and You'll Have To Lose Something (2024)[7]. Their sound mixes shoegaze, psychedelic folk, dream pop and noise, increasingly built from samples and tape collage[5].
