Biography
Teenage Fanclub are a Scottish alternative rock band formed in Glasgow in 1989, growing out of the city's C86-era scene after the breakup of the Boy Hairdressers. Raymond McGinley, Norman Blake and Francis MacDonald joined forces with Gerard Love[3].
Their sound recalls Californian bands such as the Beach Boys and the Byrds, with Big Star and Orange Juice cited as influences[3]. Blake, McGinley and Love shared songwriting and lead vocals, an unusual democracy that gave each album a varied but unified feel.
Their third album, Bandwagonesque, was released in November 1991 and was named album of the year by Spin, ahead of Nevermind[4]. Kurt Cobain often praised the band, and they supported Nirvana on tour in 1992[3]. Later highlights include Grand Prix (1995), which reached number 7 on the UK albums chart[2].
Gerard Love left the band in 2018 over differences about touring, and Euros Childs and Dave McGowan joined the lineup. The group has continued to release records, most recently Nothing Lasts Forever in 2023[3].
