The Kinks

Person

Biography

The Kinks were an English rock band formed in London in the early 1960s, beginning as the Ray Davies Quartet with brothers Ray and Dave Davies and bassist Pete Quaife.[1] They took the name the Kinks in early 1964, around the time they signed to Pye.[1]

After raw, riff-driven early singles, Ray Davies turned toward observational songwriting about English life and character, a direction that reached a peak with "Waterloo Sunset" in 1967.[2][3] The band split in 1997 amid creative tension between the Davies brothers, having played their last public performance in 1996.[1]
