Biography
The Supremes were a Detroit vocal group and the flagship act of Motown Records in the 1960s. The classic lineup featured Diana Ross on lead vocals, with Florence Ballard and Mary Wilson.
Working with the songwriting and production team of Holland-Dozier-Holland and Motown's house band, the Funk Brothers, they scored three consecutive Billboard Hot 100 number ones in 1964, followed by a fourth with "Stop! In the Name of Love" in 1965.[1][2] One account holds that they became the first group to reach number one on the Hot 100 five times in a row.[3]
In 1965 they released several albums, including More Hits by The Supremes, which reached number six on the Billboard album chart.[4]
