Biography
Tirzah Miriam Lois Mastin, known as Tirzah, is an English singer-songwriter born in 1987 in Braintree, Essex. She was the youngest of five children and learned the Celtic harp as a child.[1]
She attended the Purcell School for Young Musicians, where she met Mica Levi, who would become her closest collaborator and the producer of her albums.[1][2] After the 2013 EP I'm Not Dancing, she released her debut album Devotion on Domino in 2018, followed by Colourgrade in 2021 and trip9love...??? in 2023.[1]
Her music pairs spare, improvised-feeling production with plainspoken songs about love, friendship and care. She has two children with the musician Kwake Bass and lives in Sidcup.[1]
She joined the Purcell School at 13, and her friendship with Levi grew in the school's music technology room. She has described their partnership as closer to a band or duo than a producer and singer arrangement.[3]
She grew up on Al Green and Barry White, and works as a print designer in fashion. Her daughter was born in November 2017, midway through the making of Devotion.[3][4]
